I want to feed the roof aerial in the bottom and out the top to two TVs, can I do that? The resistor is a 75 ohm resistor between the bottom and the top right. Not sure what to make of this.

VGA gender changer
So I needed a female to female gender changer so I could convert a male VGA plug to female, and while I was there I figured I might as well get 2 pieces of each and have the full set, but I did feel a little bit silly placing an order for a male to female gender changer… I don’t understand why they are even on the market.
Make: Design for CNC
Today I’m reading my copy of Make: Design for CNC. I don’t have access to a CNC router but I’d like to learn a little about what’s possible.
Custom Cable Creator
I found this Custom Cable Creator. Pretty awesome! You can pick from a very wide variety of plugs and sockets and custom make a cable, then order it! Not sure what prices are like, I suspect high, especially for low volume.
Today I discovered 100kgarages.com. Seems like a cool idea. Not sure they’re operating in my area!
New solvent: Naphtha
Apparently Naphtha (known as Shellite in Australia) can be used for cleaning. But as near as I can tell it’s mostly used for fuel.
Things You Should Know About Databases
This one popped up in my feed today: Things You Should Know About Databases. My favourite quote was this one:
The SQL standard defines 4 standard isolation levels these can and should be configured globally (insidious things can happen if we can’t reliably reason about isolation levels).
It’s so important to know what isolation level is applicable to your connection/transaction.
Mac startup tips
If you hold shift when you boot your Mac it will boot in safe mode. When you’re logging in hold shift and your apps that normally open at start-up won’t be opened automatically.
Wrist strap and ground
I have this anti-static wrist strap and a ZYX-209-I ESD wrist strap tester/monitor which I demonstrate in the video below.
PVC insulated cables
So I asked about cleaning cables over here and apparently the material on the outside of a typical cable is PVC (Polyvinyl chloride), AKA “vinyl”. The jury is still out on what the best cleaner is for vinyl, but options include WD40, IPA, and metho (ethanol). I was worried that such solvents might damage PVC around electrical cables, but apparently it won’t.
