The cabling is done for my new studio computer ‘verve‘, so everything is ready for plugging in when it arrives. 1x power, 1x HDMI, 1x microphone, and 14x USB devices.

Cables, cables, cables
These are some of the cables I pulled out of the lab yesterday which haven’t been plugged back in yet. I’m just waiting for my new computer to be installed before I complete the cabling.
New cables
I made some new cables (the ones on the right). They’re banana plug to square socket. They complement the ones on the left, which are banana plug to pin jumper. The pin jumpers can plug into the square sockets.
I also installed the two black hooks to hang them on. The silver hook with the hot glue gun on it was already there.
For each type there are two pair of short ones and one pair of long ones.
PVC insulated cables
So I asked about cleaning cables over here and apparently the material on the outside of a typical cable is PVC (Polyvinyl chloride), AKA “vinyl”. The jury is still out on what the best cleaner is for vinyl, but options include WD40, IPA, and metho (ethanol). I was worried that such solvents might damage PVC around electrical cables, but apparently it won’t.
