[ProgClub programming] git commit error level

Looking at this:

jj5 at tact:~/repo/git/staticmagic/netprov$ git commit -m 'Work, work...'
 On branch master
Your branch is up-to-date with 'origin/master'.
nothing to commit, working tree clean

 jj5 at tact:~/repo/git/staticmagic/netprov$ echo $?
 1

git commit seems to be returning error level '1' when there are no
changes to commit. That's fine as long as it's only '1' in that case so
I can handle this situation.

I read the man page for git commit and it didn't seem to comment on
error levels.

Can anyone confirm that git commit only returns error level '1' when
there are no changes to commit?

May the Force be with you,
John Elliot V
