That is rather more perl than I had imagined!

Reminds me of this one: https://xkcd.com/224/

lol. BTW, your shell's globbing feature won't support regular
expressions, so what you're actually after is:

jj5 at tact:/usr/bin$ ll *.pl *.rb *.sh *.py
ls: cannot access '*.pl': No such file or directory
ls: cannot access '*.rb': No such file or directory
ls: cannot access '*.py': No such file or directory
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4.6K Feb 22 2019 gettext.sh*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2.2K Mar 25 2018 gvmap.sh*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 30K Nov 23 2017 kdevplatform_shell_environment.sh*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5.1K Sep 30 2017 kopete_latexconvert.sh*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 31K Jan 30 13:05 nvidia-bug-report.sh*

...which tells a slightly different story.

May the Force be with you,
